Since 2001, the East African Center has provided life changing education and life saving medical care to tens of thousands of people living in Eastern Kenya. They go beyond simply delivering services. They partner with the local community by empowering women and children to make a difference in their own lives, while also ensuring access to vital health and educational resources and tools for lasting change.
Programs are tailored specifically to meet the local community’s needs and are guided every step of the way by input from the community. Based in Takaungu, Kenya the East African Center acts as a facilitator between community members and donors, a best development best practice that has proven successful for us
The East African Center is a community-based organization that provides education and health programs to several villages on Kenya’s coast.
The East African Center mission is to help communities eradicate poverty by empowering themselves, by improving literacy for women and children, and by improving the communities’ overall health status.
The organization now operates a variety of successful programs, including one of the area’s highest performing nursery and primary schools, a health services outreach program via a team of Community Health Workers (CHWs), and an HIV/AIDS education program.
